Summary: A touching and exciting story of sex
Comment: A Twist in Time by Charles Muller begins on a daring and raucous note with the protagonist Michael talking about his fascination with porn videos - a scene which the author has achieved with the precision pace and timing you would expect of a well-rehearsed comedy actor. The book continues to entertain with sizzling scenes of sexual encounter and prose so packed full of innuendoes and subtleties that you are tempted to read pages again to pick them all up. You certainly feel you are in a master's hands as Muller cleverly and convincingly builds up sexual tension between the protagonist and the manipulative Samantha and goes on to thrill the reader with detailed descriptions of some unusual (and often embarrassing) sexual encounters. Gullible, likeable Michael wins the readers hearts even more when he lets naughty Samantha take full advantage of his naivety and lack of sexual experience. It is at this point in the book you realise that Charles Muller is not merely describing sex for the sake of entertaining. There is clearly a much deeper message in A Twist in Time:- society has not learned a mature way of dealing with human sexuality, turning it too hastily into an act of shame, disgrace and guilt. Sex, which is our human nature, one of our fundamental needs and methods of expressing feelings of love and joy must not be ignored, closeted and twisted into something nasty and dirty.

The story weaves in some interesting comments and ponderings on life, time, religion and the inter-connection of things as it moves on its pleasant-paced and humorous path in time. A touching story of sex which is not just tantalising and exciting, but realistic, down-to-earth, non-pretentious, heart-felt and believable. Though the ending of the book may have been a twist too far, the rest turns and twists in some very amusing and poignant ways.

Summary: A book full of emotion and color!
Comment: A book full of emotion and color!

First of all I'd like to say that the words, comment, elaborate, laugh, agree, volunteer, assure, squawk, advise, sigh, and surmise are great words--full of feelings and emotions and sound much better than "said"... I can't seem to find the word bookism in the dictionary and I looked (maybe I missed it)... and I looked at the world map and can't seem to find "No-Wheres-ville" anywhere... I don't think I would want to use my name either after saying I didn't want to sound disparaging!..( I found that one in the dictionary!..it means all sorts of things..but why not just use the word belittle! ). In any case I have to say I found this book very colorful!..I enjoyed it tremendously. I'm not an incredibly bright (or pedantic) person--I just enjoy reading things I can understand, with words that are immediately accessible, not words that I have to look up in the dictionary!

"A Twist in Time" has a great story to it and you don't have to be overly intelligent to understand it... and I find that most people enjoy reading books with colorful words instead of the same mechanical "said" words... This author has great imaginative ability and there's nothing lazy about his thinking or writing...

I find Charles Muller to be a great writer and so does my wife... So keep up the good work Charles, I've read five of your books now and plan on getting more!..and if anyone wants to give constructive criticism to the author, maybe they should give it to Him and not to Her..seeing the author is unmistakably a man. (By the way, even my spell-checker won't let me use the word bookism! Perhaps I should add it to its vocabulary.)

Summary: Getting by the Said Bookisms
Comment: If you can get by the Said Bookisms, you might like this novel. A Said Bookism is an artificial, literary verb used to avoid the word "said," which is basically an invisible word in fiction. This is a mistake made by most beginning writers. This novel starts off with thirteen said bookisms before one "said" is found. People in this novel don't "say." Instead, they comment, elaborate, laugh, agree, volunteer, assure, squawk, advise, sigh, surmise, etc. These were taken, in this order, directly from Chapter One. Nine out of ten times, "said" or "asked" should be used when a character speaks. They are nearly invisible and not as jarring as all those others. This is not some pet peeve of mine, but real writing advice that can be found in any writing magazine, and it is offered not in disparagement, but as constructive criticism that the author can use in her next book.
