Summary: Students love this book!
Comment: The Adventures of Captain Underpants by author Dav Pilkey is one of the silliest books this teacher has seen. Both girls and boys enjoy this book. The story is about two charactors named George and Harold. The two are best friends and enjoy stirring up trouble around their grade school. George and Harold also enjoy writing a comic they call 'Captian Underpants.' Mr. Krupp is the principal at the boy's school. One day George and Harold pull some pranks that get them into a lot of trouble with Mr. Krupp. Mr. Krupp punishes the boys by making them do extra work and behave. The boys do not like this so they devise a plan to hynotize Mr. Krupp with a hypnosis ring. To make a long story short, the two boys hynotize Mr. Krupp into Captain Underpants and that's where the real adventures in the book begin. Readers will find themselves laughing outloud. Some of the funny things in the book include Dr. Diaper, flip-o-rama, and the pranks that George and Harold play. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has a sense of humor.

Summary: The Adventures of Captain Underpants Book Review
Comment: I thought this book was terrific, especially for young children. I laughed the entire way through the book. I think the story line, the terms and the text that were presented in this child's book make children want to read. It presented innocent fun. The idea of the principal doing things at a child's command, a principal running around in his underwear, wedgie power, and all of the tricks kids wish they could get away with doing, interest children. There isn't anything better than for children to get away with adventures like Harold and George pulled. Pulling jokes on adults, especially adults in powerful positions, such as a principal or parent, fascinates children. The idea of pulling a prank on the football team, someone with more power, that has the ability to destroy them, and getting away with it is an outrageous idea and something we all wish we could do to someone. Successfully completing an adventure like Harold and George makes them the most powerful and children all want that sense of being in control. The book gives instances of mischievous situations children would love to try if they could only hypnotize adults with a "Hypno-Ring for $2.99." The price of $2.99 makes it realistic from a child's perspective because most children could afford to order an item at that cost. The flip-o-rama's were original and funny. Children have the ability to add their own silliness to the story. As silly as George and Harold were, the book sent the message that children need to be responsible and watch out for the safety of others while they are engaged in pulling pranks. George and Harold followed Mr. Krupp., making sure no one was injured while they were pulling their pranks. I absolutely love "The Adventures of Captain Underpants."

Summary: A convert to potty humor
Comment: Potty humor has never been my thing but after reading a poll of children's authors naming Dav Pilkey today's funniest children's writer I broke down and bought the book. I was laughing so hard I could barely read it to my children. Okay, I'm exaggerating, but that is almost true.

Pilkey actually uses wonderful vocabulary words and intelligent humor along with his doo-doo words and diaper jokes. The mix is fantastic and shows that intelligence does not preclude silliness and the lack of intelligence may cause you to miss out on a lot of fun.

The illustrations are integral to the story beginning on page one. There are pictures (very amusing pictures) on every page which keep my 4-year-old interested and the flip-o-rama action is genius (in a low-tech sort of chapter book way.)

Don't be afraid to check out this book...you may actually enjoy it or even love it like I do.
