Summary: A little too weird (and sad) for me
Comment: When I bought this book with my Hanukah money, I was (and still am) a huge Dear America fan. When I actually read the book, I was somewhat disappointed.
It seems that throughout the book, Amelia (the main character) is alone most of the time at the top of the lighthouse. I don't see how the lighthouse ties in to the story, other than it lights the way for ships that may be carrying runaway slaves. I prefer happier books, like, in the Dear America series, I Thought My Soul WOuld Rise and Fly.
The book is about a girl named Amelia MArtin, who works alongside her father as keeper of the Lighthouse of Fenwick ISland, Delaware in 1861. HEr mother and father are constantly fighting--her father wants the slaves down south to be free, but her mother doesn't. When Amelia's mother moves back to the mainland, away from her father, Amelia feels that her world is falling apart--especially with her friend Daniel going off to join the war. But with the arrival of a new Keeper, Robert Hale, Amelia feels that everything might be all right.

All in all, if you like happy stories, this book may not be for you. It gives you a feeling of being alone. Not a happy thought. But it wasn't really a bad book. Just time-consuming and not very happy.

Summary: A Light in the Storm
Comment: The book I read is called A Light in the Storm. It is about a girl named Amelia who loves the lighthouse and the lighthouse noise. She has to learn to deal with all the troubles with the war, her mother and father, and her friends. Amelia has to learn to understand that everyone isn't Union. This book talks about some things that you find in a social studies book.

The main character in the story is Amelia Martin. She is a serious girl who looks at people and could tell what kind of feeling they have. She is a very strong and courageous girl. She believes that women have as much rights as men. She is a girl that thinks everyone should be treated fairly no matter what skin color they have.

The problems in this book are, William Amelia's friend dies. Amelia's mother is sick. Amelia's friend Daniel is going to war. Amelia's parents are acting weird. Amelia's parents are going to get a divorce.

How she resolved the problems were, she talked to Daniel, Williams brother about William. Her mother went to live with her grandmother. She writes letters to Daniel. She tries to get her parents together. She must understand that the divorce is for the best.

I would and wouldn't recommend this book. I would recommend this for the people who love to figure out secrets and love the sea. I wouldn't recommend this book to people who love the civil war. It has a few things about the civil war but not a lot. I also wouldn't recommend it and I would recommend it at the same time because it shows how life really is.

Summary: An great book
Comment: Amelia Martin lives on Fenwick Island with her parents, and her father is assistant lighthouse keeper. Amelia does more than what is usually expected of a lighthouse keeper's daughter, and she is so good at her job that the head of the lighthouses paid a visit to the island just because of her.
But life is hard for Amelia. Her parent's don't get along, and she is stuck between the two sides of the civil war. Her mother is for the south, and her father is for the north.
When Amelia's best friend is called off to war, can Amelia survive the war in her own heart?

This book is really good. If you like stuff about the civil war, this book is for you.
I felt so sorry of Amelia. I mean, her parents' divorce one of her friends' dies and another one goes off to war. But Amelia was strong, and she didn't let her troubles get the best of her. Now that 's what I like in a girl.
