Comment: I have recommended this book to all of my collegues, family and friends. I have given it out as a gift and made sure my library and the schools my children attended have this book on their shelves. I think it is a great piece of american literature. Firstly because Julie Gregory has amazing talent as a story teller and writer. A very professionally written memoir which brings tears to the eyes along with an overwhelming sense of surviving hope to every reader. Secondly, Julie's life, her story of her childhood, deserves to be examined and debated. Nothing like what she endured should ever happen to a child and yet our news broadcasts and papers are filled with such grotesque child abuse stories. The fact that there is a name for what her mother was suffering from is disgusting. The fact that it is not an isolated situation and the fact that it is becomign so well-known among the mental health and physical healthcare communities because of its prevalence, is disturbing. I doubt you will find a better guide through such abuse than from the child who suffered through it. This should be mandatory reading for all parents and children.

Summary: The Sickness Inside
Comment: This chilling story of a little girl who was abused by her mother brought me to frustrated tears. This book is not for the weak of heart, it is a cutting truth of child abuse and it will make you feel, strongly what this child felt. I was abused as a child and I can tell you I remember conversations from 25 years ago, verbatim. The man who left the bad review should have his account closed for abusing this service. He is obviously dealing with his own issues of being abused and knows only how to lash out when his pain is triggered. He obviously doesn't understand his own pain or has issues remembering it which has caused him to be completely ignorant to the reality of the manifestation of child abuse as an adult. I hope he finds some help for himself somewhere. I was brought back into the pain of my childhood reading this book and it took me days to sift through all the memories that overwhelmed me. I was inspired by the author's strength of character and truly heroic effort to face the pain inside of her. This book is wonderfully written and took me through every high and low, causing me to be sad, angry, frustrated and introspective but most of all she is an example to my own strength. Reading her book has led me to a new level of healing and I look forward to more books from this author in the future.

Summary: Moving and Inspiring
Comment: A moving yet tragic story about the dangers of a parent's afflictions on their child. Truly horrific to read, yet oddly beautiful in regards to the author's survival. In the same class of survival and abuse stories as White Oleander, Nightmares Echo, and My Fractured Life.
