Summary: My Review for The Slave Dancer
Comment: I thought the book The Slave Dancer was a very sad book. There are a lot of emotional periods in this book that I didn't like that much. Jessie is living a poor life in New Orleans, when he is captured by two sailors and was put on a slaver to play on his fife and make the slaves dance for exercise. The captain is mean to Jessie and whips many people. Then there is a horrible storm where Jessie and a young black slave named Ras go into the holds for protection. The ship sinks and Ras and Jessie swim to land while holding on to a trusty log. They get to the island and meet an old slave named Daniel. He takes care of them for a couple of days, but then two men that speak the same language as Ras, take him up north to live a happier life. As for Jessie, he is sent to walk home with only a map and food. He gets to his home and family. If I had to rate this book, I would give it two out of five stars.
Our Summary In the book The Slave Dancer by Paula Fox was about a 13-year old boy named Jessie, who had many death-defying adventures. Jessie got captured and then taken away to the slaver where he was to play music on his fife for the slaves. On his journey, he meets many crewmembers such as Purvis Clay and evil Ben Stout. Their mission was to get to Africa on The Moonlight, the slave ship, and get the slaves to trade. There was a terrible storm and The Moonlight was shipwrecked. Ras, a slave that is Jessie's age, saves Jessie and gets him to land where they meet an old man named Daniel. After spending a couple of days with Daniel, Jessie is forced to walk back to New Orleans. In the end, Jessie reunites with his family.

Comment: Do you want to read a captivating story, about a boy who was forced to play his fife for the slaves on a slaveship? On a boat called The Moonlight, this is exactly what happened. Thirteen-year-old Jessie Bollier lived during the time of slavery and took an interest in the slaves. He was barely surviving, with little money, and had to work to provide for his family. Although his mother was hardworking, she made little money and could hardly support her family. Sadly, his father had previously passed away. Jessie played his fife on the streets of New Orleans to make a profit, not knowing he had a secret admirer.
Then one night while running an errand, he suddenly disappeared. To where? Nobody knows. And nobody knows that he is on a long journey, on which he will meet a great friend.
The Slave Dancer, by Paula Fox, won the John Newbery Medal, as well as the hearts of many readers from ages 9 through 13. Her other books include Lily and the Lost Boy, The Village by the Sea, and the Newbery Medal winner One-Eyed Cat.
The Slave Dancer is full of suspense which can make your stomach turn. But, the wonderful ending will touch your heart and win you over.

Summary: The Slave Dancer
Comment: The book The Slave Dancer by Paula Fox was a heart pounding, adventurous story. In the beginning of the book a 13 year old boy named Jessie was kidnapped by two men, so he could play his fife on a slave ship called The Moonlight. They reach their destination in Africa, and a lot of slaves board The Moonlight. A young boy about Jesse's age looked at him, and Jessie finds out later in the book that the boy's name is Ras. A storm suddenly struck the ship. Jessie and Ras swim to land and find out that their in Mississippi. Then they meet an old man named Daniel who helps Jessie and Ras by giving them shelter and food. Ras was taken away in the night by two men. Soon after, Jessie is given a map to New Orleans, and travles to find his family. This book is a great book!
I liked the book The Slave Dancer. It wasn't the best book but it was still pretty good. It has an exiting plot that makes you want to find out what happens next. When Jessie gets kidnapped I wanted to find out what would happen to him. I also like the book because it could have happened. The shipwrek was discribed it very well. This is a great book.
