Summary: Unbelievable
Comment: I read an article in the local paper about Alicia Appelman. She had come to give a speech in a nearby town. I decided to get her book because I've always been interested in the Holocaust and atrocities of WWII. After reading the book, I was floored by what Alicia went through and amazed that she actually survived. How do you go on when everyone you love is gone and your whole world is completely destroyed? Even more amazing is that Alicia not only survived but she didn't become bitter and let hatred and sorrow destroy her life. When I read the "Diary of Ann Frank" I thought that she had endured a lot, but I think in some ways Alicia had it worse because she had to go out every single day and fight for survival. I am glad I read the book because it made me very grateful for the freedom that I have. And when I am feeling down for some reason, I think about what Alicia went through and I realize how trivial my troubles are. I hope the rest of the world reads this book so this will never happen again to anyone.

Summary: HEARTWRENCHING!!!!!
Comment: This is perhaps the best book on the holocaust EVER written!!! Alicia really has done a stunning job on this book; not a detail left out! And it is SO gripping! This story has anger and hatred towards Hitler and his followers, of course, but it is much more emotional, more intimate. This story has much more tenderness than any other Holocaust story I have EVER read; even the hardest, most callous person(I am the stoic type) would be left sobbing from this story.
Alicia has a close and VERY loving family(a rarity nowadays, which is quite a pity): both parents, three older brothers and one younger one. Your heart is torn to pieces as each of the family is killed one by one. After her mother was killed and she had to flee Buczacz, she finds herself working for farmers and trying to help her fellow Jews, and even saves some Russian partisans from death. When she is congradulated by the Russian army, she wishes to return to Buczacz. But(the way I see it) she seems to have somewhat of a crush on one of the partisans she saved(Kola, I think his name is) and is hesitant on leaving.
This whole book is remarkable! But Miss Jurman must have gone through the most dreadful pain having to remember all these terrible memories. But her work has not at all been in vain. Brava Alicia! I hope you are reunited with your family and friends when your time here has passed. This book is just wonderful to read. Thank You so Much!

Summary: Inspiring
Comment: Alicia ia an inspiring book for young people that have lost many close ones in their life. Alicia is a very amazing person it is hard to believe how she stays alive and well throughout the book. Alicia shows how no matter how hard you struggle you can always help others. The author of this book, Alicia Appleman-Jurman makes you feel like you are in the book with her going through all the struggles. Throughout this book, Alicia goes through many encounters and meets many new people some nice and some not. She adjusts to her living conditions very well and helps the people around her. She copes with the lose of her four brothers and her mother and father and finds many other lost family members. She even meets other people that were generous and she consider them her "new family." If you helped alicia along her struggle with the holocaust you can guarantee that she will pay you back someday, somehow. It is very heart-breaking to think how Alicia spent her teenage years, hdidng sometimes in the worst of places. Also throughout the book Alcia looses mant friends, her dearest friend of all, she bouries. After reading this book i can say that this on of the best holocaust books i have ever read, although i have not read many, I can guarantee you that no matter what age, sex you will love this book if you read it. The way she touches peoples lives is truly inspiring. I know that if i wouldve lived through those times, I would not have stuck it out like Alicia, but she continues to find more and more ways to help people and save herself. This book will really touch you heart if you read it.
