Summary: A Genuine Mystery
Comment: Last week I bought the latest Kinsey Millhone paperback, P IS FOR PERIL, and after reading it I decided to start at the beginning and read them all again. I found A IS FOR ALIBI somewhat disappointing. I didn't like Kinsey's insensitive right-wing "lawnorder" politics, and I was able to figure out who dunnit well before the book's conclusion.
However, commencing with B IS FOR BURGLAR (I'm now up to G) Sue Grafton has been characterizing Kinsey as tough and competent without making her into a tediously macho John Wayne with lipstick. Best of all, this one's a rare mystery that throws out all the clues honestly and still remains tantalizingly mysterious until the last few pages. What a joy! Small wonder this slim novel won all the major prizes for its publishing year.
I worry that Grafton is up to Q. What will she do when she gets to Z? Start over with numbers, I hope.

Summary: Almost Perfect!
Comment: "B" is definitly one of the best Sue Grafton books and so far I've read 8. It actually deserves 4 in a half stars but 5 is too many. It starts off kindof slow but once it grabbed hold of me I couldn't put it down. The mystery was so complex that I didn't even take bets on the outcome because I had no clue at all. But it was truly a twist at the end that I didn't even think of. Kinsey is hysterical in this book and I especially loved her friend from Fl. Julia. Read this book! You won't regret it.

Summary: funny, suspenseful - another great kinsey mystery
Comment: "B is for Burglar" is Kinsey Millhone's report on her search for Elaine Boldt, a wealthy woman who, instead of going to her Florida condo, has disappeared. Par for the course for a Kinsey mystery, the plot is memorable and not too easily unraveled. An excellent light read.
