Summary: The best in the series
Comment: The Valley of Horses is the second book in Jean M Auels magnificent 'Earth's Children' series. Having been exiled from the clan that raised her, Ayla now has to set out on a journey to find the 'others', cro-magnons like herself.
This is the epic tale of a young girl's struggle to survive by overcoming fear and adapting to being alone in a strange and hostile environment.
During her travels Ayla discovers the valley that becomes her home and her haven and it is here that she find much longed for companionship with the horse she raises from being a foal.
Running parallel to this is the story of two cro-magnon brothers who have set off on a journey in search of adventure. Ms Auel manages to handle these two story strands with ease and switching between them never 'jars'. Eventually the two tales intertwine and become one as Ayla finally comes face to face with one of her own kind. As rich in detail as the first book in the series, this book is an absorbing read and is difficult to put down. Highly recommended.

Summary: great sequel
Comment: After reading Clan of the Cave Bear I read the 2nd book the Valley of the Horses and it was just as good as the 1st one. Ayla after being thrown out of the Clan of the Cave Bear by the new leader (who could not stand her and hated her) Ayla is left by herself to look for her people that she knows as the Others. Ater finding a new home in a Valley with Horses she one day finds and meets Jondalar who is hurt really bad by her pet and friend a Cave Lion named Baby. While taking care of Jondalar and him healing they get to know each other and form a friendship at first and fall in love with each other. It is a woderfull story of love and friendship you won't forget as they struggle with life and getting past the language barrier between them as they get to know each other and Jondalar struggles with learning about Ayla's past and being raised by the Clan of the Cave Bear(he calls Flatheads) and his views of them are not as bad as he was tought and told. Any one who read the first book will like the 2nd book.

Summary: Adventure and Romance
Comment: First, I think that Auel is a fantastic writer. The amount of research that she does for her books, and the rumored number of rewrites that she's done as new information surfaces makes the books in this series very good - you know that when she describes how they hunt that that was how it was done. The characters are great; well developed and likeable people. and the storyline is original (or it was at the time it was written, these days everyone is churning out historial fiction).
With that said, let me say that the book reads like Tami Hoag's first thriller "Lucky's Lady", in that it features a lot of sex for no reason at all. It's obvious that much of the sex in the storyline is gratuitous, almost all of it unnecassry to further along the plotline.
