Comment: This new book by Jerry Gebhard and Bob Oprandy is a wonderful beginning (or continuation!) of a journey that each profession language teacher should make. The book challenges each teacher to explore not only their beliefs about teaching, but where these beliefs came from. The tasks in each chapter are set so that such an exploration is possible. Additionally, examples of action research carried out by practicing teachers are most helpful and may act as a guide for readers to carry out their own action research projects--the future of the profession for language teachers. The great aspect of the book is that it is nonprescriptive and nonjudgmental in its approach to exploration. Self-exploration is a tricky thing at the best of times; however, this is a sensitive guide for language teachers to help them explore their teaching worlds.
