Summary: How Could This Have Been Published by Oxford Univ Press?
Comment: This book is a real stinker. It is hard to read, leaves out critical information as it jumps from topic to topic and assumes the reader already has a lot of background. DEs are an important and interesting subject, but the reader won't think so from reading this book. Best use of this book is to shim up a table with uneven legs.

Rating: 1
Summary: DO NOT USE THIS BOOK
Comment: This text assumes more familiarity with functions and calculus than most students will have. There are not enough explanations given; no theorems are mentioned or proven. Exercises are lengthy, incredibly complicated, and often do not include enough of an explanation of the symbolism used, and frequently there are errors in the problem structure, e.g. equations have incorrectly written coefficients or information is missing. The text jumps from idea to idea without much explanation, and is too burdensome to read. There are far better ways to explore differential equations than can be attained from this book

Summary: save your money!
Comment: compare to the author's previous offerings on similar topic, this one is a BIG BIG BOMB! it lacks structure and decent explanation. if this is used in classroom, your students will avoid thinking about ODE's for the rest of their life! it is a shame that this book is from prof. O'Malley who used to know what is going on. O well, I guess when someone is retiring, he no longer gives a damn...
