Comment: DeFelice and Clarke's book equally serves two audiences: Students and researchers. Students can expect to find detailed and rigorous treatment of the requisite physical and mathematical stuctures both on which Einstein's relativity is built and with which the theory is concerned. This material builds from first principles to the front of research in relativity. To wit, topological sets are first carefully defined and explained immediately following an introductory discussion of the necessity of a relativistic formulation of physics; following a tour de force of many introductory and advanced subjects in relativity the monograph concludes with a treatment of Hawking radiation. Detailed descriptions and explanations extend through many of the conventions and results existent in relativity; e.g., notations, action principles, exact solutions, and formalisms. Much material is included in this text: Manifolds, spinors, black hole physics, ADM, gravitational energy theorems, singularity theorems, Lie Algebras, cosmology, tests of GR, Hawking radiation, axially symmetric solutions, DeWitt's formulation of particle solutions in GR, Ernst's formulation of the Kerr solution --- to name a few. As such, the text serves as an outstanding reference and resource that could serve many of the workers in relativistic research.

In short, this monograph is exceptional.
