Summary: WOW
Comment: I just wanted to respond to the person before me. It sounds like contemporary art is way over your head. Please do not waist our time with long reviews about things you clearly do not understand.

Summary: LEAVE IT!
Comment: I hate art more than I already did after having read this book and attempted to make use of it in art class. Artists are all a bunch of frauds who capitalize off of the ignorance and stupidity of mentally ill people. One line across the paper and ---VIOLA!--- instant masterpiece... give me a break. To think, these people actually have buildings for their worthless, no talent pieces of crap.

I'm actually upset over this. Seriously. I'm looking at the self portrait of pablo picasso as I type and cant figure it out. My 4 year old brother could scribble something just like it. My teacher tells me to express my feelings as look at the paintings; but the only thing I ever feel like writing about after viewing a painting by one of these no talent artists is sorrow and disgust.

If it were the intentions of all artists to piss the viewer of their paintings off, then mission a-frickin'-complished. I hate them all. When I look at these pictures, I dont see art. All I see are the words "You are a sucker"... Oh my GOD! For me, they actually JUMP OFF the page! Thats so amazing, let's pay them more for adding this amazing illusion!

Oh, and to all you people who are thinking, "WOW! Another close minded child who just doesnt understand."(My teacher pulls this one all the time, he can go on for hours about the feelings and thoughts of every brush stroke. EVERY SINGLE ONE! Moron. Pain here! Sorrow there! but happiness over there. Just stop freak!) I happen to like art. REAL ART. Art that looks like someone actually put some effort into making.

Deep down inside, you really want to admit that your favorite artists is at his enormous house, laughing at you. (referring to everyone who gave this book five stars and everyone who read them and agreed)

You fools. DOWN WITH ART!

Summary: Very insightful
Comment: Not only educational, but inspiring. I not only learned about each artist and what when on during their time of certain artworks, but I was able to get insdie their head. The words of the artist's in their letters were captivating. I was caught up in the reading. I especially enjoyed Matisse and Kandinsky. Kandinsky is very spiritual about his writing and gives a deep explanation of colors. Anyway, it is a great read. It was required for my history course, but I enjoyed it. Not very many in my class could understand what they were reading. I guess you not only need not just intellect, but sophistication. I liked it!
