Summary: The author asks the serious questions of our time.
Comment: Spring 1998 I was at a bookstore in Thousand Oaks, California. I stumbled into a small group discussing the SAINT. All had read the book except me, one of them had written it. From their excitement and Mark Bailey's answers, own questions, and listening responses, I bought a copy and read it. The science was believable enough for me to engage in the fiction. The author asks the serious questions of our time. His serious questions are in a novel form and also quite enteraining and engrossing. I didn't understand Cosa's reasons for wanting to be involved in the project. That weakened some of the suspense for me. And, Peter's decision at the end was a brilliant unifier...his second chance, his second choice between ordinariness and greatness. He demonstrated this time round his "saintliness" by celebrating and honoring and valuing, ordinariness. Mark Bailey deserves the opportunity to write more books. Originally, he wanted to name it WITHIN. I would like to know what more yet is to come out.

Summary: Fantastic - even after two reads
Comment: I first read this book in 2000. Just recently, read it again.
It's a great read. Those with an imagination will enjoy this book. Anyone who wishes the church establishment could be knocked around a little . . . will love this book.

Peter's simple faith and simple recollections of his time with his Master and priceless. I yearn for that simplicity.

I've tried to located more info about Mark Bailey and haven't been successful. Aparently, this is his only published work. I wish I could find out more about Mark.
Mark Bailey's writing reminds me of James Halperin's Truth Machine and Immortal Beloved. Great Reads! Thoses are the only two books he published as well.

Thank you Mark for writing this book. Please write again!

Summary: This could have been a pretty decent what-if thriller
Comment: Just imagine getting hold of fragments of the cross used to crucify Simon Peter, finding DNA fragments on it, and injecting the material into an ailing San Francisco fisherman. He then proceeds to partially become Our Lord's chief apostle--memories from his actual lifetime and ministry, as well as his reactions to what has become of Christianity since his death. The reborn Peter even goes so far as to fall in love with a tour guide in Rome. I like the part about the genial, personable Irish Pope--John Paul has always been likable, but the Pope here is a bona fide heluva nice guy. But a lot of this is been there/ done that. Since nothing is new under the sun, maybe this might be excusable--except that much of this book's "casting" is a near-clone of a single book--Irving Wallace's "The Word", done about 50 years ago. That one is similar in premise--what if there was a fifth Gospel and it was discovered during the 20th century? In both books, you've got two brilliant and beleagered researchers under fire by the Church bureaucracy--the guy's American, the woman's Italian. In both books, the two fall in love in the process of their work. In both books, the woman researcher is a strong earth mother-type whose character matches her beauty (if they'd done a movie of the Wallace book, I'd say Sophia Loren--if they do one of this book, Marina Sirtis or Julianna Margulies). Like I said, there's nothing new yadda-yadda--but Bailey shouldn't have drawn from the same book. It's almost if not quite plagiarism.
