Summary: Insect Life and Insect Natural History
Comment: S.W. Frost's work of "Insect Life and Insect Natural History" is a good book to start on a study of insects. If you are on a self-study or in a structured course of study, this book is where you want to start. This engaging work that gives one details into the life cycles, with habits and interactions in the insect world.
This book is written by one of the foremost entomologists with a distict individuality, well-organized, scholarly, and presented in a very readable style. He begins with the biological position of insects throughout the world, with origin and distribution of insects, types and classification, the metamorphosis process and other stages in the life cycle. Morphology, insect color, sound, behavior, social life, insect prey, parasites, and the relationship to plants, subterraneon, and aquatic insects.
This book has a lot of facts and is striking accurate. I enjoyed reading about all of the differect aspects in the insect world and how they found a niche and the extemely varied relations they play to each other and to man.
If you have an interest in insects, this is book has illustrations for easy identification... all in all, a book that could be used as a field guide, but most importantly it is well written and eminently fascinating.
