Summary: Poor programming companion
Comment: Although the book starts promisingly enough with an introduction to C, where it came from and the simplicity of it, the book suddenly misses a few notches on the developemental ladder and shoots to techno-talk and completely looses you. The first chapter does a good job of introducing you to the basic of C++ and gives you information on libraries and the formation of syntax. After this however, the author assumes several things about its reader and then storms off into much more difficult territory instead of assisting you through it. I would recommend this book to those already fluent with C, rather than anyone wanting to learn C++ without any knowledge in a similar high level language.

Summary: poorly written
Comment: I used this book for a upper division class in object oriented programming.
I feel this book is poorly written. The content and organization of the book is o.k., but the grammar is so poor that it often detracts from the rest of the book.
Overall I felt this book harmed me by making it more difficult to learn C++, having to wade through it's confusing, unclear writing style.
