Summary: Definitely worth your time.
Comment: Man! I received this for my b-day last weekend, and I must say, I was impressed. I've read some of Eric Jerome Dickey, and I've heard of E. Lynn Harris, but the other two authors were new to me. That didn't matter, cause each gentleman took me on a journey with their stories. Harris's story of a young black gay man's indecision over someone he could truly be in love with was deep and poignant. It was easy to see and understand the issues homosexual people face when it comes to relationships. Though I have never read his work before, he's definitely a talented writer. And Dickey hasn't disappointed me yet. I continue to enjoy his work immensely. Colin Channer and Marcus Major both are exceptional writers, and I will certainly look for more of their stories.

Summary: Much love to the brothas!
Comment: When I saw this book on the stands I was immediately excited at the prospect of four African American male authors combining their talents within the cover of one book. I snapped up "Got To Be Real" and hummed with anticipation all the way home.
In my opinion, the outstanding story here is by Marcus Major. I got so wrapped up in this love story that I ran to get my copy of "Good Peoples" to see what eventually happened between Kenya and Amir, as Amir also turns up in this novel as the main character's brother.
E. Lynn Harris does a fine job with his story, as usual, but I have to say I was not feeling Eric Jerome Dickey or Colin Channer. EJD's story of was so busy being atmospheric and descriptive that the actual love seemed forced, and I just could not get into Channer's tale no matter how hard I tried.
I couldn't give this book any less than 4 stars out of respect to these talented authors. You may love all four stories, but I'll be you'll come away hungry for Marcus Major's newest book.

Summary: Wonderful!
Comment: I preordered this novel when I heard several of my favorite authors had come together for this compilation. This book had four different love stories that were written by four very different writers. Each story reflected their differences. Oh, what wonderful stories they were.
Eric Jerome Dickey's story is a departure from his usual humorous and crafty dialogue. It is well written and the dialogue is great, but avid Dickey fans will immediately read the difference.
Marcus Major's story is the love story of Kenya and Amir. I actually read Good Peoples before this compilation, so you know I was scratching my head until I realize that it was the prequel to Good Peoples. Major writes beautifully and he has a way of making you laugh and cry at the same time.
All I can say about E. Lynn Harris' story, is Thank Goodness! He has returned to writing in the style that I became accustomed to when I read his very first novel. A love story with heart. The love scenes have returned to this story, because in most of his recent novels he has tamed them down, but not in this story. I loved this story.
Those who know me, know I love anything written by Colin Channer. I find his writing profound, beautiful, and rich with descriptive phrases. He can turn a phrase into its most eloquent form. His writing is so classy and eclectic. His style is so different and yet so awe inspiring. When I read anything by him, he transports me into the story where I feel his words. I feel the heat he has generated. I just feel.
This compilation of short stories is a wonderful way to inspire your own love story. Wonderful!
