Summary: Wonderful story!
Comment: First off, when deciding whether or not to purchase this novel, keep two things in mind... this is not the all out "horror" we're so used to from King, this is more of a thriller. Secondly, this novel has a serious tie-in to his Dark Tower series. Even if one has not read the Dark Tower novels, the reader could still enjoy this.
Now, this novel starts off much like 'The Stand' does, in the aspect of very slow start, yet once the action kicks in it's non-stop!
Ralph Roberts starts off with bad luck, his wife is mis-diagnosed by the family doctor and Ralph soon hears the "deathwatch" ticking his beloved's life away. Shortly thereafter, Ralph develops a form of insomnia, then that graduates and he can live in what others refer to as hyper-reality (seeing the auras of others). Then come the little bald doctors... and Ralph's world is turned completely upside down...
This novel has a serious side to it, King discusses the ever present abortion issue, and the effects that it (the issue and one's feelings) would have on a town, where everyone knows everyone (or so it seems). As this town's residents are split between pro-life and pro-choice, the reader also becomes involved; 'Where do I stand?' he/she might ask to the wind.
The magic that King wields here is unreal, from his character development (that the reader can easily love or hate), to his description of the town... one can see every inch of Derry. The sights, sounds, even the smells in that town become alive in the reader's imagination.
Bottom line... a King fan will love it, a non-King fan will cross-over, lol. Enjoy.

Summary: Having trouble sleeping? Don't read this book!
Comment: INSOMNIA-by Stephen King Are you looking for a quick read? Don't pick up this book. Insomnia, is a long and detailed book that needs to be read when you have a lot of extra time on your hands. Not only because it's long, but because it is one of Stephen King's best, once you start it, you have to finish it. In this tale of horror and mystery, Ralph Roberts and his wife Carolyn are happily married for many years. Ralph is around seventy-five years old, but he is active and enjoys exercising. In the past couple years he has found a love for walking a path with hills. Carolyn, is around seventy-two years old, and enjoys cooking and taking care of her husband. She always took care of everything that Ralph needed, until she couldn't do it anymore. In her early seventies, Carolyn is diagnosed with an incurable disease and is given a short amount of time to live. After Carolyn dies, Ralph has a hard time coping with the death of his wife. Eventually, he realizes that he is waking up earlier and earlier. What is happening to him? Why can't he sleep? Stephen King is absolutely brilliant in this book! He captures an element of fear that no other author has dared to write. Due to the fact that this book is long, this may cause a problem for people who have trouble with understanding long, drawn out paragraphs. This book is suspenseful, causing you to keep reading, making it one of his better works. I can't compare this unique plot to any other of his books, but I really felt what it's like to feel like you're going to die, through his vivid descriptions and haunting words. Because this is a book based on older men and women, it's probably easier for people of that age group to understand the situation that the protagonist is involved in. Additionally, a lot of this story is about the strength of love through marriage, and it's probably something that is difficult for teenagers to understand. Aside from the age difference between the characters and the reader, and the length of the book, this book is definitely something you should think about reading sometime in the future. Though it is a horror, there is an element of fear and mystery that intertwines with the horror that makes this read irresistible!

Summary: 600 pages of politics
Comment: This was King's worst novel to date. I would advise you to read it only if you are interested in 600 pages of shameless political diatribe disguised as fiction. Forget the plot summary on the book's inside cover--this book is one long rant on abortion, and that's it.
If you are pro-life (as I am), you will be particularly offended at King's disgusting portrayal of pro-lifers as homicidal terrorists who will stop at nothing to kill those who disagree with them, as well as his equally disgusting portrayal of pro-choicers as loving, caring, compassionate human beings that are morally disgusted at the thought of murder (as long as the victim isn't a fetus).
Bottom line, read one of King's earlier books, like Salem's Lot or The Shining. At least King knew enough back then to keep his idiotic politics out of his writing.
