Summary: Some excellent insights, but not a "new bible"
Comment: _The Celestine Prophecy_ reads as a passable adventure/mystery novel, but its true strength lies in how we can use the "Insights" contained within it to better ourselves and others.

While a growing cult of fanatical followers might give the book a bad name, one shouldn't dismiss Redfield as simply another charlatan preying on the spiritual thirst so many people have in our times - in other words, don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. There's some very wise writing here, in amidst other...not-so-wise bits. However, when I read certain parts of this novel, they resonated very deeply.

I have carried with me the ideas and insights that felt like truth in the years since I read this book, and they are still a part of me today. Not all of the book is full of great revelations, and some of it is frankly eye-rollingly awful. You may be wondering, with the review I've written here, why I gave _The Celestine Prophecies_ 4 stars; overall, I believe it's a book that *could* change many peoples' lives for the better, perhaps turning them from a more selfish, cold perspective to an altruistic outlook.

It's definitely not a book For Everyone, but I do recommend it for those who believe there's more to life than what's right in front of our eyes.

Summary: Good Book or Bad Book?
Comment: hello. i just wish to *share* my views on this book and i don't represent anybody or beliefs. i read a lot (in fact i have hundreds of books), from books on self-development or motivational by carnegie, hill, stone, ziglar, etc to the silva mind control by silva, to eastern philosophies, to metaphysics, to new age, to religions ....etc as far as i am concerned, there is no good or bad book and there is no good or bad writer......a book serves the purpose of sharing someone's idea or discoveries, or to convey a message or to prove something of a scientific nature or discoveries.... but what is most important is what a reader gets out of a book.......yes, there are many many established writers with great works published ..... but unfortunatley they might be *too deep* for a lot of people....... it does not really matter whether CP is a real account or whether Redfield is a new age advocate.....what is most important is that he has put in very simple, easy to comprehend ways and terms, many subjects of interest that are prevalent today. many of the things he has mentioned, i have studied and researched comprehensively into.......and i have noticed that Redfield succeeded to inspire one to look at them in more detail from other books and references. on top of it all, he has put across the points in very *human* terms .... that we can *feel* as we read along ...... people can be aroused to love our life, nature and the world more.....and yes, God too. a cup that is full can no longer fill any water .... so it is the same with our mind ..... we should read a book with a humble mind and a desire to seek *new* knowledge & insights ..... not as a challenge or an effort to tear others down. well, that's all i have to say ..... i have read many books and i will continue to read till the day i die .... as i have been enriched by all the books i have read and i have become one with the writers .... they are my master, teacher & me. love, bhk

Summary: Not a *total* waste of time
Comment: I'd like to give this book a good review.

No, really, I would. When I picked it up, I had high hopes for a deeply moving spiritual experience. Unfortunately, I didn't get it. Oh, it was a good reminder that I need to be more connected to the source of my spiritual strength, which is God. But, mostly, it was watered-down New Age mubo-jumbo.

It started out okay, though it wasn't what I expected. It was, essentially, a work of fiction meant to impart nine "insights" of a spiritual nature. I hadn't expected a story at all, but I plowed ahead anyway. Even though it was written at about the same level as USA Today. Then, they started to tell me that I needed to be a vegetarian. Uh-oh... I disagree with that for a number of reasons, which I won't go into here. Suffice it to say that was my first warning that this wasn't my kind of book. But, I reminded myself of all the Hindu and Buddhist vegetarians and kept reading.
Then, they started seeing auras. Oh, they called it "energy fields", but it was nothing more than auras. That's not bad in and of itself, but it added a bit of hokey-ness to the whole thing that was hard to get past later.
And, from there on out, everyone was a characature of a stereotype found in pop-psychology or New Age literature. Not that it's all that bad, but it didn't endear the book's author to me. And, ultimately, it all got in the way of my reading. It's never a good sign when the medium obstructs the message.

Still, it wasn't a total loss. I did gain a deeper appreciation for better books! And, it made me think about what "coincidenes" really mean. Are they just interesting accidents? Or, are they messages from a higher source? So, I vowed to pay closer attention to chance encounters and such.
Also, it made me think more about how we interact with each other. How most of us are not conscious of the way we talk to and treat others. I know that I have not always been very conscious of how I deal with others. So, I promised myself that I would pay more attention to my interactions with other people.

So, while I can't honestly reccomend this book to anyone else, it wasn't a total loss.
