Summary: Fascinating "book within a book"! Masterfully suspenseful!
Comment: In High School English class, I remember learning how William Shakespeare often utilized the "play within the play" technique in his writing. Hamlet even said that "The play's the thing wherein I'll get the conscience of the King". Well, Ms. Brown puts her own spin on this technique by creating a "book within a book", thus "catching the conscience" of the villain.
Metafiction is defined as "a mode of writing that comments on its own activities, thus being self-reflective". ENVY is a perfect example of that! I found it fascinating how both the psyches of a writer (Parker Evans) and an editor/publisher (Maris Matherly-Reed) were explored so thoroughly. Ms. Brown's ability to incorporate social commentary about her own industry (the world of the published novelist) into the plot was also intriguing.
The characters were wonderfully larger-than life and the suspense was masterful. After reading some disappointing suspense thrillers recently, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this page-turner, filled with all the twists and turns necessary for a great story! I just can't believe that I've never read any other Sandra Brown books - I guess I have a lot of exciting reading ahead of me!

Summary: One incredible story of crime and passion.
Comment: Maris Matherly-Reed is a renowned New York book editor, the daughter of a publisher and the wife of bestselling author Noah Reed. Maris receives a partial manuscript with the writer only identified as P.M.E. and a return address of an island off the coast of Georgia. Maris decides to search for this mystery writer.
On this island Maris finds Parker Evans, a man determined to keep his past and his identity secret. Maris is riveted by his tale of two friends who charter a boat with a young lady for a night of fun...an excursion from which only one person returns.
As the story continues Maris is convinced that the story might not be fiction. Disturbed by her growing attraction to Parker and gripped by his novel's characters and plot, Maris decides to find out the truth about a crime committed years ago. Then someone close to her dies and even closer looms evil - a man who uses anything and anyone to get what he wants.
I read this book on the request of a friend who had enjoyed it. I enjoyed it so much I had my mother read it. This book is one of Sandra's best by far. It has intrigue, passion, mystery, crime, and two entertwining plots. What more could you want?
Read It and I Guarantee You'll Enjoy Every Minute!

Summary: MY Favorite Sandra Brown!
Comment: I have read many of her books, but for Envy I listened to the unabridged version and read the book, many times! The plot turns and twists are too many to count!
A must read!
