Summary: This book will touch your heart.
Comment: I've read all of Nicholas Sparks's books and for Sparks' fans, this one will be no dissappointment. He has a way of making his characters come alive. You can't help but empathize with them as you feel their pain, their loniless, their joy, and even their love. I especially enjoyed reading about little Kyle and could picture this sweet little boy with his speech impediment and language problem. What a special joy he was to his mother.

I didn't think the plot (if there was a plot) was all that well constructed and the fire and rescue chapters seem almost disjointed with the rest of the book. However, it did not stop me from enjoying the book and the heartfelt sentiments that always come through in Sparks writing style.

I'm already looking forward to Spark's next book.

Summary: AMAZING!
Comment: Well, to be honest, I had never heard of Nicholas Sparks before..that is until I saw the movie "A Walk To Remember". That movie made me want to read the novel and I must say despite the bad reviews critics are giving it, i thought it was one of the best movies I've seen in a very long time. Anyways, seeing the movie made me want to read the book. As I read, I absolutely could not put the book down. Before i knew it 2 days had passed and I was finished. I was so impressed with Sparks' work that I then went out and purchased "The Rescue". Just when i thought that "A Walk To Remember" was his best work, I am finding that "The Rescue" was an even better book. I absolutely loved it. The thing i love about Nicholas Spark's writing is the fact that he gets soo deep into detail about the characters it makes you feel like you truly know them. I must say though, that the book was slightly predictable, well ok I could of predicted the way the story ended within the first 10 chapters, but something about the book just kept me reading. I'm going to tell you a little bit about myself. I am from Seattle, Wa and I graduated in 2000. The summer after i graduated i moved to Orlando, FL and got a job in retail. I chose to put off college simply cause of the fact that i wanted to go to school back home so i am waiting until next Jan to go back to school. But i haven't read a book since High School and now I love reading again. And i owe that all to Nicholas Sparks! He has a great talent for writing and it's impossible for me to put down any of his books. I'm going to read "A Bend in the Road" next. We'll see how that one goes!

Summary: The past still haunts us.
Comment: What did happen to his father? Why should he put his life in danger to save others? Was it because of the way he was 'rescued' as a child? These are some pondering ideas to look for in this informative book.

Actually there are more than one rescue in this novel, the second much more exciting and dangerous though incidental to the story. Without the first, which came much too soon in the book, the psychological aspect would have been nil.

The 'hero' who volunteers for the fire dept. has a commitment problem to women without knowing the 'whys' or 'wherefores' -- thus had decided to become a bachelor and enjoy his friends' kids -- until he meets the inimitable Kyle.

They teach each other what life is day-to-day and that love conquers all. The child's mother, poor Denise, has never really known love, only one foolish, incidental sexual encounter. Her life was totally changed because of the boy's 'disability,' and she has devoted her life to teaching him.

That is, until they have the accident and are separated, with the hero finding them both. Romance is charmingly enunciated, causing me to smile a lot (at times) and want to hit him at others.

Only in a novel or movie would things work out this way. Or is there hope for happiness with a stranger. Sometimes it works out that way. When he was able to confront his past headon, he could live a normal life. The baby made this book complete.

I was drawn to this book because of the child who has trouble talking as my youngest grandson also has this problem. I was hoping to learn something worthwhile in this instance and it was there past the half way point -- so it was of some benefit after all.
