Summary: Real Thriller!
Comment: What a fantastic story! Sandra Brown has out done herself. This is one of her best works yet. This story is a real page-turner! The outcome is completely unpredictable, was suspenseful and mysterious and all and all a great read! The Switch is a murder mystery revolving around identical twin sisters. Gillian and Melina Lloyd switched identities the night of Gillian's murder. Melina is a media escort and is worried about the guy Gillian is seeing. Trying to get her to date other men, she switches places with her sister and Gillian escorts NASA astronaut colonel Christopher (Chief) Heart to the dinner planned in his honor. The next morning, Melina is told, Gillian has been murdered. Melina doesn't believe the police are doing everything probable to bring her sister's killer to honesty. She begins her own exploration. Chief was so taken with Gillian that he stays on in the city to help Melina solve the crime. The story shows the never-ending bond between twins and has an unexpected curl at the very end.

Summary: Not Her Best!
Comment: I have been a Sandra Brown fan from day one. Her romance novels have been some of the best I have ever read. Her early mainstream novels are better than her recent ones. If you read the inside flaps on the dust cover of "The Switch", you will basically know the story and the author does not stray far from the review. "The Switch" was a fair read but could have been so much better.

For starters this book was too long! (469 pages) This story could have been told with 100 less pages. There were few characters and the information relayed between them at times became repetitive. I did not find any surprises. The murderers are revealed at the time of the murders and the reader is aware of the diabolical plot and just tags along for the ride. By the time you are halfway through the book you should be able to figure out Melina's "dark secret". I questioned it at the very beginning. And spicy sex scenes? Ms. Brown just does not write them like she once did.

In short I found this book to be an OK read although predictable and a bit long. If you want to read one of her better novels try Charade or Exclusive. The Switch seemed to have so much potential but did not deliver for me.

Summary: A delightful discovery
Comment: This summer I discovered Sandra Brown, and I have had great fun since. I discovered I like the romantic suspense novel. I always go into a book with a blank mind, I have no preconceptions, I read to be entertained. Sandra Brown is one of the best. I have now read two of her other novels and am willing to read more. She does not inhabit just one of her characters, she seems to step inside two or three of them. No one is all bad or all good. In this novel each twin has flaws. Ms. Brown gives you reasons to prefer one to the other. But Chief is the same way, not your typical good guy hero. I recommend this book. It does have a [physical]interlude, but it unfolds in flashbacks and is not overwhelming.
