Summary: Cover Girls is a good quality book,
Comment: I really was not at all interested in reading Bishop T.D. Jakes' novel,
Cover Girls. Contemporary Christian fiction is not genre of choice, and I
was skeptical whether Bishop Jakes could put together an interesting work
of fiction. However, I was pleasantly surprised by Cover Girls. The plot
was decent and Bishop Jakes provides depth and insight into his character
that a lot of mainstream African-American authors fail to accomplish.

Cover Girls is about the intersecting lives of four women. Michelle, is a
twenty-something career woman looking for the next big promotion. Abused
as a child, Michelle has hardened her heart to love and even kindness.
Tonya, Michelle's supervisor, is a dowdy, good hearted, spiritual woman,
with a college age son. Tonya and Michelle are at odds and are brought
together by fellow co-worker Shadrick to begin to open the lines of honest
communication. The two develop a friendship beyond the job and end up
helping one another blossom.

Mrs. Judson, is the successful owner of the business where Michelle and
Tonya work. Mrs. Judson is adept at managing and organizing at work, but
at home her well planned life is falling apart. Her troubles at home spill
over into the office, and Michelle and Tonya are there to help her wade
through the unimaginable. Ms. Ida, is an energetic, optimistic, devout
senior citizen who is the mother-figure to Michelle. Ms. Ida was there for
Michelle when her own mother was not, and has always encouraged Michelle
depend on God to help her face her issues.

Cover Girls is a powerful story of faith, honesty and the beauty of female
friendships. The conversations in the book are potent and thought
provoking. Bishop T.D. Jakes did a fine job of delicately weaving the
themes of faith and belief in God into a book targeted towards a mainstream
audience. Although there was a point near the end where book got a little
too preachy for my secular tastes, Bishop Jakes deftly brought the book
back to its subtle beginnings. Cover Girls is a good quality book, that
you can read quickly, and come away with some useful things to apply to
your own life.

Summary: Great ficitonal effort by T.D. Jakes!
Comment: For those a little timid about T.D. Jakes jump into fiction, Cover Girls will be a satisfying and inspiring read. The "cover girls" are four women from various walks of life. Michele is ambitious, but carries a bitter chip on her shoulder. Separated from her loving husband, Michele is guilty of not loving herself thus building a formidable wall around herself. Tonya, Michele's supervisor is a hard-working single mother who depends heavily on her faith. On the outside she appears to be a deeply religious women, but she secretly hides her brokeness over her shattered marriage. Mrs. Judson is Michele and Tonya's boss. This wealthy woman has it together at work, but life is a mess on the homefront. The oldest of the four women, Miz Ida, is the "seasoned" veteran of the group.

In true T.D. Jakes fashion, the bestselling author and speaker, "uncovers" pain and promotes healing starting with an unlikely friendship between Michele and Tanya. Michele and Tanya's co-worker, Shadrach, serves as a mediator between the two women, gently encouraging them to reveal their past and move on to a better future. Shadrach's personality is reminiscent of it's author. Another refeshing male character is Michele's husband, who wonderfully represents "the supportive Christian husband". This is definitely a great effort by T.D. Jakes and it serves it's purpose in doing what the man does best - encourage and uplift women!

Summary: Wonderful novel
Comment: Michelle, Tonya and Mrs. Judson are so very different yet they are all searching for the same thing a resolution.

Michelle is a young woman trying to find her way in life. On the outside it seems that she has it together but there is a battle going on within her. Too afraid to trust she truly believes that all she has in life is herself. But she has some people praying for her.

Tonya is a praying woman. Like Job, everything she has ever had has been taken away.
But her faith in God never waivers. Unfortunately her faith in herself is where her problem lies. She has to realize that when God sends us an answer, doesn't always come from where we expect it.

Mrs. Judson is a woman who is in control. Whether it is on her job or in her home she has to be the one calling the shots. When something causes her to realize that her perfect life isn't really perfect she finds out who is really in control of her life.

People come into our lives for reasons or seasons. In Bishop Jakes, Cover Girls, the three main characters have direct a direct impact on each other's lives and they don't even realize it. We learn that God always has what we need we just have to learn how to accept it.
