Summary: Autumn Street is a book that goes deep into your soul.
Comment: I thought that this book is very emotional. I`m only 11 and this year I`ve already read it four times!!! I`m the type of girl that cries at sad and touching books and movies like Autumn Street. I cried for hours after reading this book. And now, I even sit back and enjoy it even more. But now that I`ve experienced this book a lot, I even will start tearing up in the beginning. Lois Lowry wrote the book with such feeling that when you read you really feel like you`re Elizabeth and something tragic finally happens to your best friend. Her description of all the details in the book are so magical and real. Even now when I get deep in thought over the book I might start to cry. This year we have to read it in school. I don`t think I`m going to be able to handle the sadness. And even when I`m about 48, I`ll never forget this book. As long as I live!!!!!

Summary: Simply a beautiful book.
Comment: From the opening description of the painting of Autumn Street that Elizabeth plans to the final, haunting image, Lowry creates a world that feels completely authentic. Elizabeth's rivalry with and love for her sister, her difficult relationship with her distant grandmother, her admiration of her grandfather and her overwhelming love for her best friend, Charles, all ring true. This book manages to include class issues, racism and war inside a story of a small Pennsylvania town. I read this for the first time at age seven and still cry for Elizabeth. I can't say enough good things about it.
