Summary: Good Book Well Written
Comment: These books are best read along with one or two others on the subject. This is an entertaining book covering the Gambinos with fascinating behind the scenes descriptions.
I still do not understand how the head of the Gambinos can die and have an estate valued at just a house - no matter how grand that house was. Other than a meat business and a house Castellano left almost no assets to his wife and daughter. But he did manage to stay out of jail. Maybe he left bags of cash?? It seems like he did not. I think the Genovese family had a better cut of the economy in Manhattan.
Recommend highly if you like this sort of subject. Fills in a few gaps.

Summary: give me a break
Comment: sure it's interesting to see how the FBI works, but c'mon people. these feds spare no detail of the man's private life. this is just _WRONG_. how did this get printed? don't these guys have to sign some sort of non-disclosure form when they first join the FBI? how would you feel if this happened to you? this is the most unethical piece of garbage out there! if big paul was still alive, these guys wouldn't have had the balls to even try to get this published.

Summary: READ THE BOOK--Don't Rely on the Recent Movie
Comment: BOSS OF BOSSES is an extraordinarily well-written account of the development of the case against the head of the Gambino crime family, as told by the two former FBI agents who lived the case.
The recent movie version, starring Chazz Palminteri, was well-made and interesting, but the film transformed the book's story into more of a biography of Mob boss Paul Castellano (even inserting some fictional elements). The original book, BOSS OF BOSSES was a much more in-depth, non-fiction telling of the cat-and-mouse investigation by the men who actually did the investigating!
If you want to read the inside story of the investigation--with all its drama and twists and turns--READ THE BOOK!
The original book was not a NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER for 15 weeks for nothing. The book has won many awards and has gone through several editions in hardcover and softcover.
