Summary: A compelling case for a return to segregation
Comment: The moral of this story is that segregation is good. When I saw what that shark was doing to the poor innocent fish I realized the allegory of this. Yes, it is important to separate children of different nature and background in school. Just as it is dangerous to mix sharks and guppies.
Also, this was a good comment on the failures of those we trust to teach our children these days. Despite knowing Sammy's dangerous primal urges, the teacher encourages his behavior. Like when he told Sammy the painting looked good enough to eat, that the book was a story that the children could sink their teeth into, and most especially when he told the creatures to be a terrible storm and destroy everything in their path. And they say a public education is a good value!!! Take author Ward's lesson and homeschool, homeschool, homeschool!!!
Basically, this is a cute story for kids but an extremely powerful allegory for conservative adults.
