Summary: This is what is right about pro athletes...
Comment: If you ever get tired of the over-hyped, over-priced, super inflated egos of professional sports, read this book. You will have to search hard to find a more down to earth player, author and book as "One Giant Leap". A wiser person than I once said that "the true mark of a man is not having never fallen, but having fallen, rising again." Jeff Hostetler humbly displays "the true mark of a man." In a style that does not seek pity or adulation, he relates his life on a Pennsylvania farm, his sense of being out of place at Penn State, the personal victories at West Virginia, and rising to the pinnacle of professional sports only to have personal tragedy bring life and family into focus. Jeff never displays the aura of the golden boy who had it all, but, in his story and style, acts like the hardworking, honest boy next door. Though not in the category of sports literature of "Run to Daylight", or "I am Third", it is not about a person of the public stature of Vince Lombardi or Gayle Sayers. Jeff is the everyman who has struggled, succeeded, suffered, and succeeded again, but on a higher level: Life. If you're weary of the prima donnas and showboats of pro sports in general and football in general, savor "One Giant Leap". Nice guys can finish first.

Summary: One of the best football books I have ever read.
Comment: A great story of a true american hero. I loved the book and felt that Jeff Hostetler told a wonderful story of growing up and dealing with lots of problems and never ever giving up. I was so glad that he won the Super Bowl in 1991 with the New York Giants but even happier that his Mom could be there to watch him before she passed away. Jeff is an example to young people everywhere about following your dreams and never letting people tell you you are not good enough. He is a true inspiration..( even if he did put red-hot in Phil Simms underwear!!) I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.
