Comment: George and the Dragon Word is one of the best children's stories I've ever read. It's well-written, funny, wise, and and speaks to the heart of the way kids are. It's not easy dealing with authority, particularly when it comes in the form of an over-bearing relative who invades your space and forces you to eat poached eggs, or some other nauseating so-called food item. One wishes one could indeed spit out an ugly word and turn these people into the dragons they really are, thus revealing the horrible truth for all to see, and getting revenge all at the same time.
But beyond a child's identification with George's frustration, this book offers a kind of charming fable that contains an imaginative way to deal with rage and anger. Given all the tragedies uncontained rage leads to around us, we need many more of these kinds of stories.
