Summary: Excellent medical reference book for the lay community.
Comment: This volume contains a great deal of good basic information about the human body, the diagnosis and symptoms of various medical problems, and treatment options. Cross referencing within the book is superbly handled with italicized words and phrases which represent subjects fully covered elsewhere in the volume ("hard copy hypertext".) Excellent drawings and photographs provide real insight into the body and various medical conditions. Highly recommended for individuals associated with the health industry, or for those who are simply interested in knowing about and understanding the human body, its functions, and "normal" and "abnormal" medical conditions.

Summary: The American Medical Association Encyclopedia of Medicine
Comment: This is the greatest book. If I ever need to know about any medical situation, I refer to this book and it has never failed to give me the information I need to know. My only problem with it is that it was written in 1989, and a lot has happened since then. I would like to see an updated book soon.

Summary: This Book is Too Old
Comment: I didn't realize that this book has not been updated since its copyright--1989. The date of information probably is 1988 or earlier. While this book is clear and well-organized, anything that's 14 years old has little credibility with me. I feel that I made a mistake in getting it.
