Summary: I'm sorry I love Levenkron-
Comment: I was working on my Masters in Psychology when I was introduced to my first self- mutilator. I had worked in the state mental institute for 3 years, yet had not come across anything like the young girl sitting before me. I was scared, she was my client and none of my supervisors knew how to handle her. However, with a little compassion, patience, a will that would not let me give up on her, and this book, I was able to establish the 'relationship' Levenkron states is necessary for a counselor to establish with a patient. My endeavor was successful and I followed everything he said to do. Now, inspired by him I am working on getting into a doctorate program- my goal- to work with self-mutilators. Levenkron can be a little egocentric, but he is truly a master at what he does. He cares and genuine patient concern is very rare. I admire him tremendously and of all the self-mutilation books I have read, this one is by far the best and was the most helpful. Much thanks and appreciation to Levenkron for sharing his insight.

Summary: A great book for people who cut (and people who don't)
Comment: This book is amazing. It helps to explain the way a cutter (or self-mutilator) feels when they are hurting themselves. It shows what causes a predisposition to the problem. It's a really good book for someone who is trying to explain the problem to someone they know and/or love.
Written by Steven Levenkron, a therapist who's treated many self-mutliators, this book explores why people can do this to themselves. It is written not only for the self-mutilators, but also for friends, family, and therapists.
The book describes the typical characteristics of a self-mutilator. To quote it: "The self-mutilator is therefore a likable, somtimes high-achieving person." It described me to a "T". It uses real-life situations (changed names) that Kevenkron has experienced in his years of treatment of self-mutilators.
It helps the self-mutilator to learn how to control their habits.
If you're a self-mutilator or know one, this book is for you.

Summary: Insightful and On the Mark
Comment: This is a great book which gives anyone wanting to know more insight and a good honest look at the disorder of cutting. Anyone wanting to feel comfort from their isolation of cutting will find many things very relevant and at home.
