Summary: Great book
Comment: I recently came across this book again. I remember reading it about six years ago in high school and thoroughly enjoying it. I shared a new chapter of the story with my family every evening. I also remember reading another fictional story about the Oregon Trail, about two sisters travelling alone, the younger one disguising herself as a boy. It was a great story, but I can't remember the title or the author. If anyone knows what I'm talking about, please let me know.

Summary: This book is wonderful!
Comment: My mother forced me to read this book 30 years ago. I resented it for probably no more than the first two pages of the book. After that, I was hooked. This book is truly gripping. I could not put it down. I looked for a copy without success the entire time my children were in their teens. I started looking for a copy again recently because I figure in ten to fifteen years I'll have grandchildren in the right age bracket, and I want to be able to give them a copy of it. If you can find a copy, buy it! You won't regret it.

Rating: 3
Summary: Humorous but sometimes tedious...
Comment: I liked the general plot behind this book - I love history and I love the Gold Rush period. And while I enjoyed quite a few of Jaimie and co.'s adventures, sometimes I found the book a little gruesome (some of the Indian segments), or just dull (the extended Mormon sequences). However, I do think Taylor writes with a lot of tongue-in-cheek humor, and for that, I'd probably up it to 3 1/2 stars.
