Summary: A Light - Hearted Romp
Comment: A light-hearted romp with lots of sexual tension, a bad-boy hero to fall in love with and a spirited heroine well deserving of him, make The Seduction Of Sara one of the most enjoyable regency historicals.
It's Brighton, and Nick Montrose, Earl of Bridgeton wants to return to polite society after he was forced out of the country due to a scandal involving his cousin's wife (read Karen Hawkins' The Abduction Of Julia). With menacing undertones of a pending disaster in the form of an illness waiting to take over his body and his fate Nick might be ill, but unlike in other stories this hero is not whining and succumbing to his ailments, not wallowing in his bad fortune. This is a man that goes after what he wants and when he wants it. Love at first sight it was for me - what a formidable tortured hero!
Could it get any better? Yes! Enter the heroin, a wilful young widow. Sara, Lady Carrington. Sent to Bath to find a husband, Sara decides on Nick and sets out to beat him in his own game of seduction But Nick is unwilling and all the other men she goes after are dropping like flies.
Read it, enjoy it, be seduced by it and fall in love with Karen Hawkins' worthy characters!

Summary: Let the Games Begin
Comment: Karen Hawkins is an absolute master at writing stories that get your attention from the very beginning and hold it to the very end and the Seduction of Sara is a prime example. Sara is a widow who wants to get married and doesn't want the restrictions of a marriage, Nick is a rake who wants a place in society and a mistress but not the commitment of a marriage. When the these two get together the sparks fly. Nick tries to teach Sara the fine art of seduction in hopes of making her his mistress and Sara wants to learn the art of seduction in hopes of gaining her a pliable husband that will allow her to do as she wishes. Neither of them plans to fall in love with the other.
Ms. Hawkins hooks the reader from the very beginning and keeps the pages turning with humor, intrigue, passion, and unexpected suprises. I cannot wait until her next book comes out. Enjoy!!
Rating: 4
Summary: Really 3 & 1/2, but as part of the series, I give it 4
Comment: While not my favorite of the series, "The Seduction of Sara" is an enjoyable romp. Sara is not my favorite heroine; she's too bent on mischief without concern for the consequences. You'd think her ex-husband's escapades would push her into greater propriety. But Nick is an excellent character; his bouts with excruciating migraines are an interesting twist. Unfortunately, that problem is never really dealt with in any final way; only the accompanying problem of pain killers is addressed--and that without certainty.
However, secondary characters Anthony & Anna and Delphi & Henri help make up for those deficiencies, as do the many incidents of comic relief. There is a poignancy to Nick & Sara's romance that also tugs at the reader's emotions.
Not the best of the series, certainly, but welcome within the context of them all. Because of that, I'd recommend reading it in order.
