Summary: One F.I.N.E. book
Comment: The book to end all books for Aerosmith fans. You can't get any closer to the band without actually stepping into their lives. You'll never look at these guys the same after you've read their story. It's more info than you ever needed to know about the Boston bad boys. Don't even think you know everything about Aerosmith unless you've read this book cover to cover. Filled with enough pictures to satisfy your eyes, the info in this book with satisfy your head. It's funny, dramatic, sometimes even disgusting. It's not written in the style of a novel. It's constantly switching narrators, from the guys in the band to their closest friends and back again. Wanna know about their lives before Aerosmith? Read the book. Wanna know how they named the band? Read the book. Wanna know why they really split up, and why they really got back together? Read the book. Wanna know about the first time Steven Tyler got laid? Read the book. 30 times more information than a "Behind the Music" special. This is the Aerosmith bible.

Summary: Suffers from not enough editing.
Comment: As a big fan of Aerosmith since 1976, I found this book to be VERY informative, although a bit long. To get to the first 150 pages was a chore, simply because: Do I really want to read about the life of management ? OR the disk jockey that first played MAMA KIN in 1973 when Aerosmith was not known ? Not especially.....After that, we start to learn about all the record releases, life on the road, and the troubles with drugs and personalities within the band. VERY good reading. But it takes to long to get to that point. Also, I was so sick of reading WE DID SOME BLOW, WE GOT SOME BLOW, BLOW, BLOW, BLOW...OK ! I know the focal point of the story is the battle with drugs and how they conquered them, but ENOUGH ALREADY !

Ok...With that said....YES - It is an informative book and interesting, it just needed to be edited by about 100 pages.

I would recommend this to any DIE-HARD Aerosmith fan who enjoyed (and knows) their releases of the 70s..BUT, for the fans who only liked them from 1987s PERMANENT VACATION and on, BEWARE...Running at 524 pages long, it discusses THOSE releases starting at page 425 (or so).

A very good book, but not excellent. 3 1/2 stars, to be exact.

Comment: Sex, drugs, and rock'n'roll. Sex, drugs, and rock'n'roll. Sex, drugs, and rock'n'roll. Those three things make up the bulk of "Walk This Way: The Autobiography of Aerosmith." And amazingly, that repetition doesn't make it bad. Rather it just adds a guilty pleasure tinge to one of the better rock band biographies out there.

They were some young boys from Boston who wanted to make music, but nobody could have guessed that they would become one of the biggest rock bands of the 70s. Girlfriends and wives, drugs of all kinds (one rock wife used cocaine as eyeliner), plenty of concerts and devoted fans, and a life of reckless excess caught to Aerosmith. They partied hard, and it almost destroyed them. Somehow they got their act back together, cleaned up, and are back rocking onstage.

Unlike the disappointing autobiography by the Rolling Stones, Aerosmith's book has a feeling of authenticity. You get the feeling that because of their wild pasts, this is a bit of a confession for them -- "I was bad and this was what I did, and now I know I was an idiot." They give a sense of the day-to-day life of a major rock band, both the good and the bad. The level of detail is simply astounding -- and many little questions are answered. Wanna know why Steven started putting scarves on his mike stands? This book will tell you!

There are extensive, insightful interviews not only with Steven Tyler, Joe Perry other Aerosmith members, but with just about everyone they spent any time with during those years. Bebe Buell (mom of Steven's first daughter, movie star Liv), Teresa Tyler, Tim Collins, Liz Derringer, Jack Douglas, Elissa Perry, somebody called Rabbit, and lots of others. In fact, it gets a bit difficult to tell the not-so-prominent people apart at times. But it's good to see many different viewpoints, the best way of determining what kind of people they are.

Music aficionados, 70s buffs and Aerosmith fans will devour "Walk This Way." It's not just a guilty pleasure, but a mesmerizingly grubby look at Aerosmith's pheonix-like life, destruction and resurrection. (Sex, drugs, and rock'n'roll!)
