Summary: An excellent read!
Comment: Valency does an incredible job of outlining the differences and similarities between the poetry of Provencal and Troubadour poetry. He traces the development of the love lyric and chanson de jeste in a way that both describes the intircacies of the two literary genres as well as the differences between the knight as a hero and the knight as a lover. It is a highly informative analysis and an easy read.
