Summary: wonderful book
Comment: I loved this book, in fact I could barely put it down! I loved the story of a woman living life to the fullest, living in the moment, and having zero memory of the past few months. What I didn't love was the ending. I thought it was kind of fake. But besides that I loved the book.

Summary: What a terrific story!
Comment: This book starts out as a page turner, and in the beginning had me as bewildered as Kelly, the heroine. The suspense continues throughout the book, but at the same time I got wrapped up in Kelly's "current" clean slate life. It is very easy to identify with Kelly - she handles life's problems as most of us probably do, TRYING HER BEST. Her friend Laney is delightful! Laney is the best friend a girl could want, although she's not perfect as she has the endearing honesty to admit. Laney is supportive but not afraid to insert her opinion when needed, as most of our good friends are required to do from time to time!

Above and beyond loving the characters and keeping the pages turning rapidly to uncover the mystery behind the memory loss, the book had me literally LAUGHING aloud in numerous places along the way. It was so funny because I could relate to those true to life 'I could just die of embarassment' moments.

Laura Caldwell has a lot of talent to create such real and enjoyable characters. This is definitely a book I'd recommend for a light and enjoyable read.

Summary: Serious Chick Lit?
Comment: It is refreshing to see Red Dress Ink offering such a serious title being published under the guise of chick lit. Though it makes one wonder exactly what to expect from the genre when a title like this can be published under the same label as the likes of "Fishbowl" and "As Seen on TV" by Sarah Mlynowski, books that are just laugh out loud funny and frivolous reads.

Up until I finished "A Clean Slate" by Laura Caldwell, the only similar work in the genre that I had read was Jennifer Weiner's "Good In Bed". Though this title does not top Weiner's debut novel, it is comparable in it's seriousness and depth. I beleive this is what RDI was trying for when publishing "Losing It" by Lindsay Faith Rech, which in my opinion was terrible and not at all the quality of any of the previously mentioned books.

In "A Clean Slate" an ordinary woman's life is suddenly filled with tragedy and disappointment. Her sisters death closely followed by a 30th birthday marked by being dumped by her boyfriend, just when she expected a proposal and the loss of her job when she expected to make partner. Five months later aided by the loss of her memory of those painful months, she emerges a new woman. One who can make her future anything she wants regardless of past expectations.
This story poses the question of weather the expectations you set for yourself in life are what you really want, or if you just set a course for life and follow it unquestioningly.

This book is unexpected and poignant and decidedly un-chick-lit like, I can only hope that RDI is trying to set a new standard.
