Summary: I'm still waiting for O's story
Comment: Having never read a book of this type before, I wasn't sure what to expect. The book was a quick read, but throughout the whole story I was waiting for something to happen. The repetitive descriptions of the acts of torture that were inflicted on O were getting boring after awhile. The main character had no substantial thoughts of her own. I just could not bring myself to understand why this woman would go through all of these tortures and give up her life this way. The book did not describe O's thoughts, rather it described things that happened to O, or things that O had LET happen to herself. Before I picked up the book, I had heard from other people that it was an extremely erotic and stimulating book, but I don't see what can be erotic and stimulating about a woman who allows herself to be treated like a toy that is always waiting for more torture. I found this aspect of the book extrememly degrading for women. I would of liked to see more of O's thoughts and a bit more depth to her character. Overall, I was not pleased with the book, but for some strange reason I read it until the end. Maybe I was actually expecting some kind of resolution to the story, but I didn't get one.

Summary: Powerful Eroticism That Is Timeless.
Comment: This is a unique and fascinating story of the unadulterated surrender of ones body mind and soul. That one, is a woman who is mysteriously named "O". .............. "O"s lover Rene, submits her to a strange house in which women are bound, blindfolded, and required to obediently do whatever they're told, for whomever tells them. The story is beautifully written, and really conjures up powerful mental images as you lose yourself in the story. I read this cover to cover on a three hour car ride, and it made the time pass far more quickly. Many debate over the authors true identity. Some think Pauline Reage is a man, but I can't understand why. There are so many details in this book that are clearly feelings of a woman, and the entire book is seemingly written from a womans point of view. I don't think a writer can fake that, especially in sexual matters.Of all the books I've read in the classic erotica realm, this is among my top favorites. It ranks up there with "Erotica" from Anais Nin, and the more humorous "Tropic..." classics of Henry Miller. However, "The Story Of O" is far more powerful than the aforementioned due to the bizarre deviance of the ... content. It's certainly not for everyone, but for those of us with an open mind, and a penchant for something wild and extraordinary, here's a story that will definitely satisfy in more ways than one.

Summary: Shocking
Comment: I read this book 2 years ago and found it very profound. It has stayed with me and I consider it a classic. The main character gives up herself completely to her lover to lose him and eventually find personal ruin. The attraction I had to this book was not in the eroticism but in the shocking ways O, gave in to her lover. O, becomes the ultimate sex object but in the most humiliating way. This book is a worthwhile experience, you'll never be the same after reading it.
