Summary: Great Fun, Great Read, but did I sense another Agenda?
Comment: I have read many of the collaberations by the Linsley/Aron team, (mostly respecting the crafts)and when I discovered they had ventured into the "parenting/how to" genre, I literally raced to the bookstore.
I wasn't disappointed. With the same sassy style that has come to epitomize Ms. Linsley's works on decoupage and quilting, she deftly weaves a stylish, witty, tongue in cheek portrayal of being a grandeparent in the new millenium. I grew to love the antics of that little scat, "Cody", and found myself almost tearing up over the tender adventures of little "Gus Gus", (a younger Mr. Aron's best and most "squirrelly" friend). Luckily, Ms. Linsley doesn't need lean too heavy on the sentimentality of the subject matter common to this milieu.
The only reservation I had with the work, was an anecdote respecting little "Sara" and the "time-out" mandated by her father. Ms Linsley's behavior seemed to undermine what was by all accounts, a well reasoned and appropriate punishment. I keep coming back to this disturbing scene over and over again, and ask myself, how can it be "totally cool" to teach a child to disregard an obviously enlightened parent's need to discipline. I posit the following question for all who read this book-- Wasn't the father in this situation the one whom was really..."totally cool"?

Summary: Why the embarrassment over being known as a grandparent?
Comment: I didn't like the book's emphasis on being embarrassed about being a grandparent. There was a lot of stuff about being humiliated about seeming old when the child calls out "grandma." But the author goes on to assure her own kids that this doesn't mean anything, she loves the grandchild, just doesn't want anyone to know it's her grandchild.
This is hurtful to the child, no matter what the author says. The grandparents' vanity is more important to the grandparent than the child's feelings.

Summary: Great Book for baby boomers.Extremely good ideas, funny & fun
Comment: This is a terrific gift for grandparents of the 90s who are young, young-at-heart, active and want
to have a good relationship with their off-spring.BR If you think you're totally cool, read this, you just might learn a thing or two.BR Great ideas and activities too.
