Summary: What you need to know to succeed as a software architect
Comment: I agree with other reviewers that this book delivers on the promise of its title and informs the aspiring software architect of the other critical business communication and thinking skills necessary for an architect to lead successfully, and the relationship between product management, the architect, and marketing. I don't know of any other book onthe market that conveys this important information to this audience.

Summary: Another great book from Luke Hohmann
Comment: 'Beyond Software Architecture' is an important book. Luke Hohmann's experience and wisdom is a welcome contribution. Of course, BSA isn't the end-all, be-all, nor does it claim to be. Like a good design patterns book, BSA catalogs and discusses problems you will likely encounter when marketing, engineering, operations, and intellectual property issues intersect. For instance, BSA illustrates the woes caused when a product's business model, license agreement, and use of third party tools are out of sync.
As a manager and a developer, I've encountered nearly every issue addressed in this book. Work long enough, and it's inevitable that will too. Therefore, I whole-heartedly recommend BSA. The foresight gained will save you a lot of grief.
Lastly, the chapters on architecture and development processes can serve as useful primers for the MBA types (product managers, producers) new to software development.

Summary: Product Management for Technologists
Comment: This book is all you ever wanted to know about product management, but were afraid to ask. This book discusses the relationship between technical-artcitecture and marketing-architecture. This is an oft-neglected subject, but it is important as marketing and technology are both important for a successful product. In addition to great content, the writing is very clear. I read the book quickly, but will be using it as a reference for a long time to come. This is a great book to read if you design software systems, or are involved in product management.
