Comment: This is a collection of Stroud's major articles on Wittgenstein, Quine, and theories of meaning. The more important articles here engage various interpretations of Wittgenstein, notably Dummett on necessity and Pears's False Prison. This text is a "must have" for any serious student of analytic philosophy, especially for those who are interested in Wittgenstein. Also, it contains a superb article that critiques Searle's theory of intentionality (i.e., the role of the Background in that theory).
