Stephen Evans 'The Historical Christ & the Jesus of Faith' is of importance not only to Christians of 'liberal' and 'conservative' bent, but to the unchurched thoughtful souls who wonder why the Jesus story matters. In an often rigorous, yet astonishingly accessible manner, Evans unfolds the difficulties facing post-modern humankind in our attempt to understand who Jesus was, and how we can believe. Weighty topics include modernism, epistemological issues, whether or not the Incarnation is logically possible, a discussion on philosophy and miracles, and much much more. Evans is an evangelical scholar, but one need not agree with his worldview in order to find this book a fascinating, challenging, and even edifying read. My heart-felt recommendation!
