Summary: Simply wonderful
Comment: An excellent synopsis of world history. I'd only had two history classes in high school (avoided it in college), and now, 10 years later, decided that I wanted to learn more about the development of humanity. This book is not just names and dates - he takes you through the "how"s and "why"s of historical events. I gained many insights from reading it, plus a new perspective on the last few decades.
I would recommend this book to anyone.

Summary: Excellent summary of world history
Comment: When I first picked up this book, I wondered how well the author could retell all of human history in a mere 513 pages. After reading it, I still wonder how it could have been done. Most major events in history are covered, and covered well. I found this volume imminently readable and written in a concise, flowing prose that enticed me to continue on. I feel now that I must read Roberts' complete history to fully enjoy his historical narrative. This book is a must for all students of world history.
