Summary: Very good introduction
Comment: Woolhouse has done a very fine job in introducing the XVI-XVIII century empiricism. The book is very well written, clear and concise. Its introduction objectively sets the tone that will be constant in the rest of the book, and also clears up some misunderstandings that might arise in relation to the term 'Empiricism'. The other chapters are on Bacon, Hobbes, Gassendi and the Royal Society, aside from the three major British empiricists, Locke, Berkeley and Hume. The chapter on Locke is specially useful for unexperienced philosophy readers, for it states very clearly the main points in Locke's philosophy. The book's downside is that it could be more extensive and specific, even as an introduction. Overall, very good for undergraduate students.
