Summary: I live in "Mitford!"
Comment: I noticed on one review, the writer said she wished Mitford was a real place....well, it is. My husband and I pastor a church in the hills of KY, and it IS Mitford in so many ways....the town square, the local cafe where everyone congregates, and a host of colorful characters that add so much to our lives. I've even found myself reading "Mitford", and giving some of the characters names from our community. My husband usually doesn't read for pleasure, mainly for study and sermon preparation, but I've talked so much about "Mitford", that I now have him started on book 1. It's an enjoyable and pleasant read for him. I'm just finishing up "A New Song", and am enjoying getting to know their new congregation. I own a Christian book store, and am glad to see these books making their way to the bestsellers lists. I encourage my customers to give "Mitford" a try.....just relax and let Jan Karon take you on a little trip to a wonderful corner of the world.

Summary: Get ready for a treat!
Comment: Anyone who is looking for car crashes, sex and murder should stay away from this wonderful book. It is a glorious change of pace from the "contains explicit sex and language" tomes that permeate our bookshelves. One should enter the world of Mitford with the expectation that everything will turn out alright, and sometimes turns out wonderfully. Yes, it's a bit of a fantasy, but isn't that what real reading is all about? I loved this gently paced, thoughtful book and look forward to reading the remaining four novels in the series. Father Tim and his village are real to me when I curl up in bed at night and escape. Anyone who feels as I do will also enjoy the Miss Read series, again, small village life but in England. Take me away!!!!

Summary: Relaxing...Not Overly Stimulating
Comment: I liked this book, but felt that there could have been more of a plot or story behind the town. All of the things that seemed like big mysteries didn't turn out to be that way. It was a nice peaceful story of a town that I would like to visit. However, that's all it was, and a little long to have no purpose.
