Summary: fan of this guy's work
Comment: This is simply one of the most beautifully written books about psychotherapy--it is easy to see how Kramer went on to write fiction. Yes, the discussions can get technical; but I have taught excerpts in a course for undergraduates, and they have had no trouble learning from the vignettes. No, Moments does not say everything the author will go on to say about medication. But in its own way, the earlier book is as provocative and thoughtful as Listening to Prozac. For an overview of the breadth of the psychotherapies, and a fair assessment of their strengths and shortcomings, it is hard to do better.

Summary: Issues of concern to psychotherapists
Comment: An eloquent and thoughtful dissection of theoretical concerns of contemporary psychotherapists written just before the explosion of antidepressant medications that occurred in the 1990s. The book is written primarily for practitioners. In some of his explications (especially about the role of empathy) he tortures himself and his reader in trying to define his position. But this is more than made up for by the deeper understanding the book provides of issues every practitioner confronts and the entertaining case histories including his own.
