Summary: Excellent Collection
Comment: I'm really dismayed that this collection is out of print, and I wish that there were another one of similar quality. It's a wonderful book for understanding the slavery debate, and especially for helping to counter the _Gone With the Wind_ view of slavers and slavery. I also found that I saw _Uncle Tom's Cabin_ as a very smart book once I read this collection--Stowe's book carefully replies to every one of the pro-slavery arguments.
Rating: 5
Summary: A desperate rationalization of the antebelum old South
Comment: Want harebrained excuses to justify slavery? Step right up here boy! We've got 'em all from Bibical justification to pseudo-"scientific" rationale for the raison d'etre of that so-called "peculiar institution" that some whites, even today, justify as benign and misrepresented. Not to be missed are the wretched, mentally diseased rantings of one, Samuel Cartwright.
