Summary: Who is it aimed at?
Comment: I was disappointed with this book, despite the rave reviews. It has great photographs, I admit. But I found the structure bad, the writing not terribly informative, and highly repetitive, and the content lacking in hard facts. I have only a year of gamefishing experience, and desperately need help; yet I found alot of information given covered only what I already knew, or what common-sense would tell you anyway. The useful information is repeated endlessly; and the book's text, if well organised, could be edited by half. For example: advice regarding drop-back tchniques are repeated for each fish where dead or live baiting are recommended; and yet the subject is left open, 'some people do this, some people do that'. Infact the whole book is more of a review of what people are doing and where they are doing it. It's all very non-commital, and non-specific. Peter's main interests are Marlin, Tuna, and to a lesser extent, shark. There are a series of a paragraphs covering other species. My main interest is in my local population of sailfish; but when I next go out, I won't be changing much what I already do. It's an attractive book; but if you want good information for your money value; look elsewhere.

Summary: Good book, but makes you want more
Comment: At 340 pages thick, this book whets the readers appetite, and has sent me on a hunt for more definitive works. Great pictures, in-depth species information, but nothing practical (technique-wise) that you wouldn't find out on a good charter. If you are a marlin fan, this book has been heavily slanted towards you.

Summary: very nice
Comment: I read Peter's first book "big fish and blue water" when I was 16 and now I am trying to find a copy to go with " Saltwater Gamefishing" This is a nice book. It is not a fishing manual. It is a book. Some interesting info for people in the pacific rim countries about the rest of the world. A good book to look at when you can't get out on the water
