Summary: A marvelously miserable book by Lemony Snicket.
Comment: Violet, Klaus, and Sunny have endured some of the most horrid, unfortunate circumstances they could ever imagine since the sudden deaths of their parents. The three Baudelaire orphans just seem to always have misfortune following them -- and their miserable lives are about to become even worse. They have been sent to stay in under the care of a man who, quite mysteriously, has a cloud of smoke where his head should be. Assigned to work in a horrid mill that the three children find almost impossible to endure, their lives worsen by each day. And for some reason their evil uncle, Count Olaf, hasn't been seen around -- but little do they know where -- and how -- their evil uncle is lurking in the shadows. Can they solve a horrible mystery, avoid torture, and make their stay out alive? Or will Count Olaf for once be the victor of the Baudelaire fortune? This was one of the most hilarious books I have ever read, and Lemony Snicket's Series Of Unfortunate Events is so darkly funny I found it impossible to put down. The Miserable Mill, the fourth hilarious book in this unfortunate series, was another five-star, charming novel by Lemony Snicket, whose writing is beautiful and unmatched, funny in so many places that will always entertain.

Summary: The Miserable Mill
Comment: ...Miserable Mill is a very interesting book. It is about three Baudelaire orphans who are going to another foster home because there is misery that follows them wherever they go. There are three children are: Violet (the oldest who is fourteen), Klaus (the second child who is twelve), and Sunny (the youngest child who was just an infant). They are orphans because their parents died in a fire. Their parents left them a lot of fortune, known as the "Baudelaire Fortune" and a man named Count Olaf tries to steal it and he and the children barely escape every time (Count Olaf doesn't go to jail and the children escape from Count Olaf). If he can't get it he gets his assistants to steal it and they go as disguise. While the children were going in a train with Mr. Poe (the banker) they saw a building that was shaped like the eyes of Count Olaf. They were entering the town called Paltryville and they were to work at the Lucky Smells Lumbermill because their foster parent was the owner of the Company with a partner called Charles and they were to call their foster parent "Sir." Then one day a man that woke them up called Foreman Flacutono was acting strange, later on the day he purposely tripped Klaus, and since he has glasses they broke. So Charles took him to the eye shaped building and he came to the dormitory very late and both Violet and Sunny were worried to sick since they went to the library that Charles made and a book there that had the same eyes were written by the doctor there, Dr. Georgina Orwell. So Violet suspected something and went back to the library and researched for the whole night without any sleep and found out that they hypnotized Klaus and then the next day Foreman Flacutono tripped him again then he went back to Dr. Orwell's office and Charles said that he would take Klaus, but Violet insisted that she take him. When they went inside the building Dr. Orwell came out and greeted them kindly and Violet wondered what had happened. Then inside her accountant said that she was Shirley but was really Count Olaf and later on he Violet proved that he was and so they called Mr. Poe and let him take the children to a new foster home.
I liked the book The Miserable Mill because it was very interesting. It kept me to keep reading and reading. When I read the book I felt sorry for the Baudelaire orphans and how lucky it was to have parents. "And so it was as if Violet and Sunny Baudelaire stared at Count Olaf- or, as the nameplate on his desk said, Shirley." This part of the book told me immediately that this was Count Olaf. This part of the book made me scared and also anxious of what was going to happen next!
I also enjoyed reading The Miserable Mill because it was mysterious. Since it was mysterious it made me wonder and also made me curious of what was going to happen next. ""And you're in cahoots with Dr. Orwell!" Violet said, using a phrase which here means "working with, in order to capture the Baudelaire fortune." "Aren't you?"" This phrase got me very freaked out because it kept making me wonder if the Baudelaire orphans were going to get robbed by Count Olaf.
My favorite part in The Miserable Mill was when the Baudelaire orphans were in the eye shaped building with Shirley (otherwise known as Count Olaf) and Dr. Orwell. It made me think that the two adults were going to kidnap the orphans to steal their fortune. I also thought that they were going to hurt Klaus when they took him inside to get his new glasses. If I was either Violet or Sunny I would too be worried because I would wonder if my brother was going to survive or not. When Violet refused to take a cookie from Shirley I knew that refusing was the best thing to do because it could have had poison in it. The Miserable Mill is an interesting book and everyone should read it too!

Summary: Disturbing-In a Good Way
Comment: Ah, the misfortunes of the Baudelaire orphans...Violet, Klaus, and Sunny. They've escaped Count Olaf three times already, but he's back on their trail again. This time, the orphans feel slightly safe in their new "home" at the eccentric Lucky Smells Lumber Mill for a time, but before you know it, they're facing their enemy again. Surrounded by a creepy and zany cast of characters, the Baudelaires' story continues, and this time it's filled with logs, bubblegum, a mad eye doctor, and a receptionist in disguise...

Before I proceed, I must say that you MUST NOT read this book without reading the previous three. I have read the first three in the series, and can say that this one will not make sense if you read it first. But for all those who can't get enough of Snicket, this book is just as good as the previous ones. Yes, it follows generally the same formula, but it's still satisfying with new characters, a new setting, and yet way of discovering and fighting Count Olaf. Snicket includes more "vocabulary words" throughout the text, and somehow, they continue to add to the story.

Before I close, I have one more comment. Snicket and "A Series of Unfortunate Events" is not for everyone. It must be read with a sense of humor, and an understanding that you shouldn't take everything seriously-it's a MOCK "gothic" novel. But for those of you who have strange senses of humor, a penchant for tongue-in-cheek wit, and a fondness for unique (and slightly childish) reads occasionally, this series is it. Yes, the seeming gloom and doom of these novels may seem disturbing, but in the smartest, funniest way.
