Summary: Excellent kick start to a stalled work out regimen
Comment: I read Body for LIFE and immediately recognized that this was for me. I have been working out regularly for a long time and have been more and more frequently reaching plateaus in my development. I have tried every type of training split heard of and have been a believer in supplements since I started training. I had been stuck at 20 % body fat despite increases in aerobic sessions. I had reached the point where catabolism was becoming a problem due to increased duration of workouts and increased aerobics. I tried creatine and L-glutamine supplementation with only minimal effects. Essentially I was good and frustrated when I found "Body for Life". I made an honest commitment to stick to the nutrition plan, including the supplements, and the exercise plan that is set forward in the book. The commitment was the key. Sticking with the plan, even when I wasn't sure if it would work, proved to be the ticket to success. Even the change in mental disposition has benefited me in not only my workouts, but in every day life.
To all you who would try and throw cold water on the ideas presented in Body for LIFE, get of your duffs and try it. If it doesn't work for you, then go try something else. I for one would bet that if you commit to it, it will work for you as well. I can tell you from my personal experience that the gym is full of overweight body builders, and the obligatory ripped steroid freaks. The minority of people in the gym are the ones that are lean, say 9-12% body fat for men, and still making muscle gains without steroids. I know several gym-rats that never lose an ounce of fat, and cheat on their reps, that could benefit from using this program. If you follow the intensity program as it's laid out, you will make muscle gains as well. This program elicited more of a growth hormone release and subsequent growth response than I could have anticipated. If you don't weasel out on the intensity, this program could produce results for you. You have to lift heavy at the top of your sets, and don't waste time between sets. Usually by the time you rack the next weight and catch your breath it's time for another set. Believe me this will shock your system into a growth response. A couple of light sets flush the tissue with blood and prime your body's neuromuscular path ways to the targeted muscles. Then it's time to blast them. By the time you squeeze out the last rep of the last set you should have a fire in you muscle tissue that you won't soon forget. If your not getting that good burn then that's what I call weaseling out on the intensity. SO TRY IT!
Finally, to all of you who would like to criticize the author, Bill Phillips, for his self promotion, what do you do for a living? Do you not promote yourself? What kind of person does not promote him/herself. I seriously wonder if many of you have even read the book. There is not an over abundance of EAS promotion. But then I guess you would rather have the book promote someone else's line of supplements. That makes about as much sense as General Motors convincing people that it's a good idea to get off their horses and try this thing called a car, but go try someone else's maybe Toyota or B.M.W. As if capitalism itself isn't enough to placate some of you, Bill Phillips gives away his video's for free and asks that in return the recipient make a charitable donation to the Make a Wish Foundation. That's pretty devious on his part. Still I wonder if many of you critics have even read the book, our you might understand this one too. There, I've said my peace.
I strongly recommend this book to anyone looking to get in shape, or change the shape they're in

Summary: A Lazy Novice Dieter's Tale
Comment: Firstly, some background; Before this book I was a 39 year old woman who had never been on any kind of diet or exercise regime- had pretty much spent my entire life effortlessly thin. Then I quit smoking and gained 50 pounds in 9 months. Oh, the horror.
While searching for a solution to my weight woes, I decided I wanted something that would promote a complete lifestyle change- not just some quick fix scheme. This program really seemed like something I could do for the rest of my life. Eat 6 times a day? Hey, I love to eat! Exercise 6 times a week? Not such a bad idea. The real clincher was having that blessed one day off each week to eat, drink, and be merry.
It has now been 12 weeks and I am here to tell all you couch potatoes that it IS doable! Nope, I don't look like any of those dramatic before and after photos. Sadly, I was in worse shape than the lot of them. And, to be completely honest, I probably only gave it 80% of my efforts. But, believe me, I see a big difference. My body is taking on some definition, I can see those muscles straining to the surface!
I like the fact that he offers a toll free number for help and encouragement (I called for tips on how to get enough protein on a vegetarian diet). I like the earnest tone of his book, I found it quite endearing. I LOVE the stories- I have read them several times over, whenever I needed some encouragement to keep going. And, finally, Mr. Phillips' organization is very involved with the Make-A-Wish foundation, so you can also feel charitable using the Body-for-Life method- knowing you're helping, in some small way, to make a deserving tyke's dream come true.
Look, if I can do it, ANYONE can do it. Seriously. Quitting smoking was a lot harder than this program is- all ya gotta do is flip the switch in your mind that says "Enough is enough!" This book gives you all the tools you'll need to take it from there.

Summary: It works!
Comment: Ignore the negativity in some of these reviews. This program works! I know, I've done it and 2 years later I still maintain a single digit bodyfat level. BTW, some of the negative reviews (especially one recent one) are from jealous competitors who are sick that their expensive books are going NOWHERE - ever! Ignore the LOSERS and be a winner! Buy it and use it!
Good luck!
