Summary: Dramatic, Risque, and Humorous!
Comment: George Beneath a Paper Moon is an account of a man's life (not told first person) that is interesting all the way through. The man, George Hare, owns a small travel agency that booms with success. However, he isn't affected by money; he only likes to help people by fulfilling their travel desires. Through Gerorge's life, he is unappreciated and feels that his being is ludicrous. The book is his story, his experiences, his love life, his personal thoughts, his (and Nina Bawden's) brilliant insights, etc. The style that Nina Bawden writes in is fabulous! She includes her own remarks in parentheses as if she were reading along with you. She takes a risque plot and portrays it as completely normal. I was through this novel before I knew it and find myself wishing I could be reading it for the first time all over again. ...And as for the last line, it is a clincher.
