Summary: A Pure Joy and a Great Teaching Book
Comment: I grew up on Mr. Pine, and was thrilled to see it again and share it with my 3-year-old daughter. Unlike many simple stories for young children, this one is fun for adults, too. The text is easy and predictable (a must for pre-readers) but not monotonous. The story is fun. The pictures, although in only two colors (black and, of course, purple) are wonderful. My daughter truly understands this book and talks about it ALL the time. It's amazing that a book can appeal so completely to adults and young children alike.

Summary: Fond Memories
Comment: Mr. Pine's Purple House was my favorite childhood book. At the tender age of four, I was partial to anything purple, but the real attraction was, and still is, the message of the story. It conveys so simply the ideas of creativity and individualism. At first, Mr. Pine's landscaping changes are copied by all on his street. Even in children's fiction, the reality of how people are so willing to jump on anyone's bandwagon rather than have an original thought of their own is there. For whatever reason, once Mr. Pine paints his house purple, his neighbors are finally inspired to paint their homes, each in their own unique color. Life and festivity are breathed into this little community because everyone went their own way, more or less. . The point is, don't be afraid to express your creativity.

Summary: Childhood Memories
Comment: This is a book I wished my mom had saved. I think Mr. Pine Fan's are a unique brand of people! My cousin and I both grew up with Mr. Pine's Purple House. It taught us to be different from anyone else. We joke about the book often, even now, when we drive down a street with all the houses looking the same. "Must be Vine Street!" It's fun to see the looks on other friends faces when they can't figure out what we are talking about. Then we have to explain ourselves, and the retell the whole story.
