Comment: Uncontrollable kids is a book not only for desperate parents but social workers, doctors, nurses, therapists, teachers, legislators- anyone who wishes to effectively change the nationwide chaos created by "unattached" children. Foster Cline passionately describes an overwhelming social dilemma caused by drug abusing or neglecting parents whose children are left unable to feel guilt or remorse. Unattached children grow to become unfeeling, irresponsible adults or more even callous criminals. Cline mentions Ted Bundy as an extreme example of the "lack of bonding" between birth and two years of age. He describes the social programs and welfare systems that perpetuate unattached family cycles, destroying inner cities and now reaching previously cloistered suburbs and small towns. He goes on to describe some behaviors seen in less extreme examples of these children. Cline also explains the benefits of and opposition to a very promising therapeutic technique with encouraging evidence of effectiveness in dealing with these vexing young people. Only problem- he recommends intensive training to deal help these children. Not alot of help if you see them in a classroom or neighborhood every day.
